Welcome to the new Way of sourcing
Hi Everyone,
I am thrilled to share my journey as a founder with you. Those who know me well understand that I am always looking for ways to create something meaningful. In this pursuit, life, the Universe, or God led me to the world of Sustainable Fashion.
My journey began with a deep dive into learning everything I could find online, scouring reports, and seeking connections. LinkedIn became a valuable tool for connecting with like-minded individuals. I took a chance and attended Polimoda’s first summer course on sustainable fashion, which, while not exactly what I expected, proved to be a significant stepping stone. This experience propelled me to attend various industry events in Florence and London, broadening my network and knowledge.
Upon returning to Mexico, I contemplated my next steps, leading to the creation of "Materia Consumo Sostenible," a platform dedicated to providing educational content about sustainable fashion in Spanish. This also sparked the inception of "LA MATERIA," the first conference in Mexico focused on the impacts of the supply chain within the country.
Materia opened my eyes to the broader connections between fashion and our roles as consumers. It paved the way for me to develop the first organic cotton project in Mexico. I am immensely grateful to GOTS for believing in me and supporting this initiative. Working in the cotton fields has been an unparalleled experience, offering clarity and defining my commitment to the industry. Being at the origin of the production cycle has no comparison.
The connection I feel has moved me in ways I didn't know possible. For instance, advocating for the security of cotton seeds and recognizing the importance of preserving varieties like upland cotton—both because of its Mexican heritage and its widespread use in the industry—has been deeply personal and impactful. Developing the supply chain from scratch, engaging with farmers, understanding their challenges, and witnessing their struggles against natural disasters and inadequate support has given me a profound sense of empathy and purpose.
This journey has been incredibly transformative, not just professionally but personally. While developing the organic cotton project, I faced a significant challenge: a diagnosis of thyroid cancer. This period was one of the most difficult of my life, but it also strengthened my resolve and deepened my commitment to sustainable fashion.
Despite the health challenges, I continued to push forward, driven by the vision of creating a platform that values transparency and collaboration. This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of resilience and dedication in the face of adversity.
FiberWay represents more than just a platform; it is a testament to overcoming obstacles and pursuing a vision that goes beyond business. My goal is to build a space where producers are truly valued, where their hard work is recognized, and where brands and farmers work together in harmony.
Transparency, to me, is more than a principle—it's a commitment to sharing the depth of my passion for agriculture, biodiversity, and sustainability. It’s about fostering genuine connections and creating a community where everyone can thrive. Through this blog, I invite you to join me on this journey, as we bridge the gap between producers and textile stakeholders and work towards a more sustainable and just future.
Thank you for being part of this adventure. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the world of fashion and beyond.
